Even if you are just a moderately fit cyclist, cycling is one of the most enjoyable ways to discover the delights of Corfu. The island has a good road system which means that nearly all of the most beautiful parts of the island are within easy reach for a day’s ride. Away from the main roads there are quiet lanes through beautiful green countryside, olive groves and traditional Corfiot villages. Cycle hire is available.
Should you wish to hire a boat for the day we have a range of options, from smaller Ribs to Sunseekers to large luxury yachts – these are all hired with an experienced captain at the helm, who can tailor a programme for you. This is a great way to explore Paxos or the smaller, almost uninhabited Diapontian islands of Othoni, Mathraki and Erikoussa.
For horse lovers, there is a riding school located within minutes of the villa. ‘Dimitris horse riding’ is the only riding school on the island that was created with rescue horses. There is a choice of a 45 minute ride, a 1 hour 20 minute ride or a 1 hour 45 minute special riding tour. The horses will take you on unforgettable rides along unspoiled paths where you will catch glimpses of forgotten beaches and lakes. It is a unique experience.
A water taxi can be arranged to collect you from the jetty at Cavo alkyoni and take you to the many beach fronted tavernas and to the outstanding UNESCO world heritage old town of Corfu.

Herbs such as rosemary, mint, camomile, fennel, and oregano, are widespread. There are many spectacular butterflies including the frequently seen Swallowtail, the tiny Common blue and the magnificent Two-Tailed Pasha. also watch out for the Hummingbird Hawk Moth (you’ll know it when you see it). A detailed list of birds spotted at Avalaki and the surrounding area is available at the villa.
Gouvia Marina, the first privately owned marina in Greece, is situated about 7 kilometers from the town of Corfu. For many years seamen considered the harbour and the bay of Gouvia a natural link between the Adriatic and the Mediterranean Sea, as well as a port of call, where they could sail in and enjoy the climate and the beauty of Corfu island. In the 17th century Venetian seamen selected the area of Gouvia as an ideal location for creating a naval station and shipyards, remains of which have survived. This tradition has been maintained until today where sailing yachts and motor boats from all over the world can be observed.
